Banning Cats Law - NZ

A village in New Zealand is making headlines for its announcement that they may ban cat ownership. Residents of Southland are not taking it too well; and say that the potential ban is a potential health concern because of the high rodent problem. As the debate goes, cats chase away the rodents; but they also prey on native birds. We'll have to see what happens next.

American cat owners mustn't worry; for they have an outdoor cat enclosure that they can use to allow cats the freedom to roam the backyard without getting into too much trouble. From an outdoor catio, cats can look at animals from the outside, including birds, but they won't be able to reach them from inside the cat fence.

Cat fencing has become quite popular in the States as well as Europe - perhaps it should catch on in New Zealand....
