Mountain Lion Dog Attack

Mountain Lion Dog Attack

In Colorado, a 3-year-old Boxer/Labrador mix was rushed to safety when the owner saw that a mountain lion leaped on the family dog. The owner shined a flashlight into the eyes of the mountain lion to drive it away. The dog suffered wounds and injuries to its back but is expected to survive.

Wild animals harm pets more often than we realize. For example, while coyotes tend to chase after small mammals for food (mice, rabbits, voles) they will hunt feral cats and stray dogs, if given the opportunity. In fact, just a few months ago, a coyote lunged over a short fence to attack a small dog.

Although we can't control which wild animals lurk beyond our properties, as homeowners, we can control whether or not they make it to our yards. To protect pets, homeowners should consider building pet fencing or deer fencing that is at least 6' feet high. This pet safety strategy will deter wild animals from jumping into yards and will protect the pet from inside the fence.

Take the necessary precautions to protect your companion animal. Think about installing a pet fence with or without a top for bird and wildlife control.
