Heat Stroke In Dogs - Summer Pet Safety Tips

As the temperatures increase, pet owners must keep close eye on their four-legged friends.

For starters, dogs love car rides; but keeping dogs alone in the car for long is not recommended. The heat inside cars can reach temperatures above 20 degrees what it actually is outside. Put windows down in the car to allow circulating air movements.

Dogs that are outside in the fenced-in yard need an escape route to avoid the heat, as well. They will need to be able to seek shelter either back inside or in a dog house to reduce the chance of heat stroke.

Heat stroke in dogs is usually caused by carelessness in pet owners. Dogs that are excessively panting may be suffering from heat stroke. Other signs include reddened gums, vomiting, diarrhea, uncoordinated movements and loss of consciousness.

Dogs with heat stroke need shade, ice cubes and cold water to cool down. Hosing them down or letting them swim in a pool is another thought. See more summer pet safety tips from EasyPetFence.com to learn more.
