Determining The Linear Feet Of Your Pet Fence
When preparing to install a pet fence, the initial step is to calculate the total length of the fence line in linear feet. Occasionally, this information can be obtained from surveys or land plot records. However, if such data is not available, it becomes necessary for you to accurately determine the distance to ensure you procure sufficient fencing material for your pet fence project. This can be achieved by physically walking along the proposed boundary line or utilizing Google Maps for a more accurate measurement.
If you need to walk the fence line:
Using a measuring wheel can simplify the process and provide an exact measurement. If a measuring wheel is not available, you can walk along the proposed fence boundary, keeping track of your steps. After completing the walk, multiply the total number of steps by 2.5. This is because the average stride length is slightly more than 2 feet, so this calculation should accommodate any differences in stride length and guarantee that you procure enough fencing material to finish your pet fence.
If you are using Google Maps:
1. Locate your address in Google Maps
2. Navigate to the 'layers' option situated at the bottom left corner and ensure that the 'satellite' option is chosen. This should display a bird's eye view image of your property. Then, right-click on your screen and pick 'Measure Distance' from the dropdown menu.

3.Use your cursor to select the areas where your fence is expected to change direction. The initial marker can be relocated to a starting point by dragging it to the required place on the map. As you pinpoint more locations, the tool will cumulatively calculate the total linear footage for the fence area. The aggregate distance and area will appear at the map's bottom. For the total linear footage of your pet fence project, you should refer to the total distance figure.
