National Dog Training Month
The Association of Professional Dog Trainers designates January to be National Train Your Dog Month, a time for pet owners to bond with new pups (or new adopted dogs) and help them grow.
Dog training can be done at home in the backyard with a dog fence or through a professional dog trainer near you. There are many reasons why dog training is necessary for the physical and mental growth of dogs.
Dog Training Helps New Dogs
Newly adopted puppies and older dogs will need to learn their surroundings; and the backyard is just the place to take them. After all, the backyard is where dogs will spend most of their time exercising, playing with other dogs and going to the bathroom. Backyard dog training will help the dog discover where and where not to explore in a safe and secure environment.
Dog Training Achieves Basic Commands
Teach basic dog commands early-on so the dog will learn what is right from wrong. Dogs that know how to "sit" and "stay" are less likely to have behavioral problems in the future because they were taught how to listen.
Dog Training Helps the Mind and Body
Trained dogs that stay engaged improve their mind functions and are able to connect the dots easier as they age. Dogs that stop learning can be at risk of dementia and other mind diseases. Teaching old dogs new tricks will help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, too. Moving about using hind legs and paws will strengthen muscles for dogs.
