Adopt Shelter Pets
Today on April 30, 2019 we celebrate Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! This is a call to action for individuals to consider pet adoption instead of purchasing pets from a pet store.
There are many benefits to adopting shelter animals. For one, prospective pet owners can support local businesses and they bring home a pet for less than the cost at a pet store. There are many types of dog breeds that come in-and-out of shelters looking for homes. They rarely reunite with their original pet owners.
Adopting from a shelter helps weaken the pet overpopulation cycle. Each year 8 to 12 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized because there are simply not enough homes for them. You can help lower the statistics!
Pets at shelters range from young to old and are looking for forever homes. They are loving animals that may or may not have been abused physically or emotionally; and they require patience, love and respect from future pet owners.
This Pet Shelter Day, visit local animal shelters and humane societies to find the perfect pet for your home and spread the word about why it's best to adopt instead of shop.
