ASPCA: "Adopt Dogs!"
ASPCA encourages prospective pet owners to adopt a dog this October from a local humane society or animal shelter instead of purchasing animals from a pet store.
Reasons to adopt a pet from an animal shelter
When perspective adopters choose to adopt dogs from animal shelters, they are saving the lives of animals and giving them a second chance at having a loving home. Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter into U.S. animal shelters; and each year, 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats).
Expected pet owners can break the cycle of overpopulation in pet shelters if they adopt. They also have a chance at finding the perfect pet for their family at a low cost. Lastly, pet adoption from animal shelters give older dogs a chance to find families that will provide them with good care.
October is ASPCA's Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. Visit an animal shelter near you to find a new furry friend.
