Animals Against Chickens
Backyard chickens just want to roam around yards without interactions with wildlife. (In all fairness, who doesn't?) Chicken owners must be on the lookout for certain wildlife that will try to harm their flock including:
- Coyotes
- Wolves
- Foxes
- Hawks
- Owls
- Bobcats
- Mink
In addition to these predatory animals with a taste for chicken, opossums and raccoons will attack chickens by biting their heads or upper neck to kill them. While some animals kill for sport, most of them kill for food.
To protect chickens from wildlife encounters, chicken owners will need to fence out these animals with a PVC-coated metal chicken wire to block jumping and chewing attempts on the fence line.
