Don't Gift Pets. Instead...

Sometimes during the holidays, friends and families think it's a good idea to gift puppies and kittens to loved ones; however, there are many reasons to avoid doing so. First off, does the person even want a pet? Does he/she have space for a pet to play? Questions like that.

Instead of gifting a pet this holiday season, there are many things pet enthusiasts can do together for the love of pets including:

• Volunteer at a local animal shelter;
• Spread the word about pet adoption;
• Have conversations about responsible pet ownership;
• sponsor a pet;
• Donate to local animal shelters.

Dogs and cats need forever homes; but if the receiving end is not ready for such responsibility, then the pet suffers. Consider all factors when thinking about buying a pet as a gift this holiday season.
