NC Shelter Pet Adoption
RALEIGH, N.C. — Hoping to help animals find forever homes for the holidays, the Wake County Animal Center is reducing its adoption fees this week.
Between Dec. 17 and Dec. 23, adoption fees are reduced to $25 for dogs ages six months or older. Families can adopt cats at a price that suites them.
According to a press release issued by the Wake County Animal Center, shelters fill up around the holidays as volunteers and those fostering animals take time off to travel or celebrate Christmas.
There are currently about 100 cats and dogs in the Wake shelter.
'The best place for these pets is for them to find a loving home where they can get all of the attention they deserve,” said Dr. Jennifer Federico, director of the Wake County Animal Center.
Adopting a pet is a major commitment, and many gifted animals are returned to shelters after the holidays by people who don't realize the hassle. Instead, if you'd like to gift an animal for Christmas, adoption experts recommend purchasing a gift card to the Wake County Animal Shelter so the recipient can pick out their own pet.
