Pet Wellness Month
October Is National Pet Wellness Month
This month is a reminder about the importance of the routine wellness check ups and keeping up with a healthy lifestyle for your pets.
Promoting Pet Health
Nutrition is a huge deal! Be sure your pet is getting enough protein, vitamins, and minerals. Check food labels and look for pure ingredients. If you’re not sure where to start, call your vet, they can lead you in the right direction.
Be sure to monitor your pet’s weight. If your pet is looking plump, play with your pet! Exercise is a great way to build muscle, boost metabolism, and reduce the “chub”.
As humans, we get check ups every 6 months for our teeth… (supposed to). So why not dogs? Dental hygiene is extremely important in avoiding oral diseases that can cause your pet extreme discomfort. Be your pet’s dentist every month and check for tartar, bad breath, and changes in gum color. If there is something out of the ordinary, make note of it and contact your vet.
Notice clumps of fur on your pet? Brush it out! Brushing regularly removes dead hair, distributes natural oils, and prevents fur matting. Please note that if you bathe your pet too much, these natural oils could diminish and could cause your pets fur to dry out. Baths should only happen every 2-4 months, unless they get into something they shouldn’t (skunk, mud, anything really). Avoid getting shampoo or water directly into the eyes, mouth, or ears. Ears can be cleaned with a cotton ball and earl cleaning solution.
