What Are Feral Cats?

Feral cats are not like domestic cat breeds- they are community cats that survive on instincts and what they have to work with in the wild. Feral cat behavior is generally defensive, moody and not suitable to be around other companion animals and small children. There is a small chance that young feral cats can be socialized if caught early on. 

Feral cats carry diseases and can transfer ticks to companion pets, if they approach home properties. They may even attack domestic dogs and cats. These types of cats cannot enter inside homes. They mustn't go to cat shelters either, as they have a high risk of being euthanized. 

Instead, TNR Programs can be implemented to reduce the homeless cat population. The programs can begin in a neighborhood and will require volunteers, medical help, healthy cat foods, fresh water and shelter for the cats. The shelter can be as simple as an outdoor cat enclosure.
