Best Tick Tools
Spotting a tick on pets can be nerve wrecking. It's one thing to remain calm; and it's another to get the dog or cat to calm down long enough to remove the tick.
Picking out an embedded tick is not the right way to remove a tick - although in a moment of panic, we can see why you would feel that this is the most effective way to take out the tick. However, using a tick removal tool is the most effective way to guarantee that the entire body of the tick is safely removed.
If ticks are removed by hand, parts of the body can break off. This means that possible infection can spread into the animal's bloodstream. When using a tick tool, pull straight up on the tick; and do not twist and turn the body.
After the tick is gently removed, take the dog to the veterinarian for Lyme Disease testing and study their behavior over the next few weeks. Dogs with Lyme Disease may experience the following symptoms:
- Unsteadiness
- Excessive Drooling
- Weak Muscles
- Muscle Aches/Joint Pains
- Difficulty Eating/Swallowing
- Fast Heart Beat
Lyme Disease doesn't just go away; but instead, worsens over time. Consult a pet doctor immediately if pets are experiencing these symptoms.
