Coronavirus In Pets
The world has gone into panic mode over the Coronavirus; and the virus is not to be taken lightly. Despite a dog getting sick in Hong Kong, the CDC states that there is little evidence supporting that dogs can get sick from the virus. However, if a human is experiencing Coronavirus symptoms, and has self-quarantined, here are recommendations from the CDC to keep animals safe:
- Maintain separation and avoid direct contact with pets and other animals, including petting, snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food. Try to make alternative arrangements for someone to look after pets in case you become ill.
- If you must care for your pet or be around animals while you are sick, wash your hands before and after you interact with pets and wear a face mask.
In addition, make sure that there is plenty of pet food at home and medications/vaccines for dogs are up-to-date. Prepare backyards with fencing in case trips to dog parks is not an option.
